The new Online TLG® is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. Should you require assistance, support is available in several ways.

  1. A list of Help files is provided in this page. Help files (stored in PDF format) are linked to the top bar of the site and can be accessed from all pages. You can download them for easy use. Please note that Help Files may be updated from time to time.
  2. A Frequently Asked Questions page.
  3. If you still have questions, please email us or fill out the Questions and Suggestions form located in the TLG main page.


The new TLG site and search engine: A list of features

The new Online TLG includes a number of new and enhanced features. The top bar provides navigation to various pages and search functions.

Navigation bar

  1. Canon bibliographies
    1. Expanded bibliographical information
    2. Ability to search ALL Canon fields or limit a search by author, work, editor, publication title, series or year of publication.
    3. Search by database fields such date, genre, geographic origin etc.
    4. Faceted navigation using TLG Canon fields.
    5. Quick links to free and licensed resources (Google, WorldCat, JSTOR, L'Année philologique, Brill Online and other sites)
    6. Ability to display locations on Google maps and view results as a timeline.
  2. Expanded Text Search with a streamlined interface
    1. Word, Lemma and Textual Search for one word or several words in proximity.
    2. Wildcard and Boolean (proximity) searches.
    3. Word index phrasal searches.
    4. Display results as a list or grouped by word, author or grammatical category.
    5. Case and diacritics sensitive searches, exact word search and subscring matches.
    6. Links to morphological information and lexica.
  3. Browsing: Ability to browse one text or two texts side by side (Parallel Browsing)
    1. Hyperlinks to morphology/lexica, statistics and n-grams
    2. Click on any phrase in the text and view its occurence in the full corpus.
    3. View statistical information about each word or the selected text.
    4. Links to online translations.
    5. Ability to search the text you are browsing.
    6. Parallel Browsing:
      • View any two texts side by side
      • Highlight similarities between two texts or
      • View differences between two editions of the same text.
  4. Intertextual Phrase Matching (n-grams)
    1. Select two texts and view their common N-grams
  5. Statistics
    1. View statistics information for the whole corpus (as a list or as a diagram) or for a specific time period
    2. Display statistical information for each author
    3. Display statistical information for each word
    4. Display use of each word by geographic region
  6. Lexica
    1. Links to online lexica maintained by the TLG:
      1. LSJ
      2. Cunliffe
      3. Powell
      4. Bauer
      5. Lampe

    2. Links to other lexica (Middle LS, Slater, Kriaras, Triantafyllides)
  7. Vocabulary Tools
    1. Get a list of all wordforms or lemmata present in an author or work
    2. Create flashcards for the vocabulary of an author or work and view their meaning (and links to lexica)
    3. View all the wordforms for each lemma
